Peter Auricchio is a modern 21st Century trumpet player. He is conservatory trained and a well rounded musician with experience in the full range of styles and techniques expected of a trumpet player and teacher in todays exciting and diverse musical world. Though Peter has spent much time performing in jazz orchestras, rock bands and pit orchestras, his real love and inspiration comes from the classical orchestral and brass chamber music repertoire.
Currently, Peter is living in his home town of Stony Brook, NY. As a member of several ensembles, you can see him performing live somewhere almost every night of the week. In addition to his performance schedule, Peter is also busy preparing the next generation of young trumpet player for the world of music and is proud to say that his teaching studio has grown to between 2 and 3 dozen students in the past few years.
Peter received his Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance from the Boston University College of Fine Arts in 2003. While at B.U. he studied with Terry Everson, a world renowned recital soloist and freelancer in the Boston area. In 2002 Peter placed Runner Up in the International Trumpet Guild Moch Orchestra Competition, held in Manchester England at the Royal Northern College of Music.
After his graduation from Boston University Peter traveled the country for 8 months with the NETworks Presents National Broadway Tour of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate!. Upon Returning home to NY after the tour, Peter spent a year recuperating spiritually from the loss of his father, Carmine R. Auricchio Jr. in the fall of 2004 and spent much of his time with his family and closest friends.
In 2005 Peter moved to Denver, Colorado to pursue a Masters of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance with a Jazz Emphasis at the Lamont School of Music. While studying with Professor Alan Hood, Peter placed runner up in the 2006 and the 2007 Lamont Concerto Competitions as well as runner up in the Lamont Chamber Music Competition in 2006.
Upon the conclusion of his Masters of Music degree program, Peter spent 3 years freelancing and teaching around the Denver and Front Range areas with groups such as The Colorado Symphony Orchestra, The Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, The Denver Brass, The 9th and Lincoln Orchestra and many other groups throughout Colorado. In 2008 Peter became a Principal Player in the Apollo Chamber Brass, a non-profit musical organization that provides High-Art Chamber Music Recital Series as well as Community Outreach and Educational Programs. With Apollo, Peter was given the opportunity to perform full recital series, live radio spots and give clinics in several states across the Western United States. In the summer of 2009 Peter was one of the inaugural members of Chased, the premier Bill Chase Tribute Band in the United States.
Since Peter's return to New York in 2009 he has been performing regularly with several ensembles and musical organizations in the New York and Long Island area. Peter has been on the teaching faculty at Music and Arts in Stony Brook and String Sound Studios since early 2012 and is always happy to accept new trumpet students from first day beginners up to NYSSMA All-State level. Peter plans to spend the rest of his life playing the trumpet and expanding his understanding of music and the world around him to the highest level possible. Music is a language with endless possibilities, many of which are in our history though there are even more in our future. Groove is Paramount!
